If this is the post on the top of the page, I must have just gotten back online and begun to do my Wednesday work. I thought I’d put up something to distract you for a few minutes so I found this video /Film’s VOTD: Henson’s 11 was made by Kat Reilly for a non-linear editing class.

Does this make anyone else want to find a copy of The Great Muppet Caper? God, I loved that move.

The Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen footage that was shown to critics and theaters owners at ShoWest has appeared online via Michael Bay. It includes a single dialogue scene between Sam (Shia LaBeouf) and Bumblebee while Megan fox strips down to something skimpy and gets some flowers out of nowhere, then, the per-usual quick cuts of robot action that show us Devastator, the Twins, Jetfire, The Fallen and Megatron kicking Optimus Prime in the teeth. Check it out…

What I’m told is the FINAL trailer for Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince has hit the ‘nets, and - boy! - after all that filler ad campaign bullcrap, it’s nice to see some flash and bang for a film that’s been done since last November, based on a book I’ve read a few times.

From floating girls to Snape on defense to a score with elevated urgency, THIS is the trailer that’s gonna get my butt in a seat come July…

Ok, so Kathryn Bigelow, director of cool vampire flick Near Dark, but also K19: Widowmaker, the Harrison Ford film that is the only film poster I own that I refuse to put up, has a new film on its way called The Hurt Locker. It’s about an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team stationed in Iraq. They got around disarming bombs.

Which is a great pitch. I just wish I knew what this film was gong to do besides showing me exploding things. I’m all up for some character drama and exploding things, but I’m NOT up for being lectured about how all the armed services are important and we sent them over there, blah, blah, blah.

I don’t mind those films, but too often I’m lured in because I want to see a war drama with exploding things.

Check out the trailer…

“Let’s do it again. Why? Because we love making movies!”

God, that’s awesome.

Quentin Tarantino made an appearance on American Idol last night, which I don’t watch because I know I could be doing other things. It’s also one of the highest rated shows on television, yeah it’s basically a national past time for some people. And I know some of those people, which means I’ll probably never have to watch an episode to know what’s going on.

Like an Inglorious Basterds clip that I guess didn’t air, but is now “the American Idol clip,” which is kind of sad, because this clip gets me pumped almost as much as a second trailer would have.

Except for Mike Myers, who I still want to fight, even though he actually looks good in the 4 seconds we see him…

disney_re_use.jpg

The above image is half Mowgli from the Jungle book and half Christopher Robin wandering through the 100 Acre Wood with Winnie the Pooh.

There’s a video making the internet rounds this (and last) week that shows Disney’s frequent re-use of animation cycles through multiple films, and - frankly - I’m surprised this is a forehead slapping moment for some people.

The mice in Cinderella were so built with and for repeated animation cycles that I noticed it when I was a child. Because you watch those things over and over again and you notice similar motions. Not to mention that this is a lot of how we get animation tropes. For example: ask anyone who has seen the Charlie Brown Chrsitmas Special (which should be everyone) to replicate one of the dances seen in the cartoon. It’s animation looping, so it makes repetitive, memorable sequences.

That being said, as a minor fan of all things Classic Disney, this video is more a trip down memory lane than some sort of OMIGOD moment where I think Disney is cheap or evil.

They might be both now, but they weren’t both then.

Video inside…

Gahan Wilson does some of the weirdest, most odd cartoons for publications like the New Yorker, and in honor of the upcoming documentary, Gahan Wilson: Born Dead, Still Weird, directed by Steven-Charles Jaffe, the New Yorker website has posted a short cartoon drawn by Gahan, directed by Jaffe and written by Coraline writer and Newberry Award winner Neil Gaiman.

Check out “It Was A Dark And Silly Night” below the cut…
