I know that this picture is selling homoeroticism, but let me tell you why the four dudes above, Chaske Spencer, Alex Meraz, Kiowa Gordon and Bronson Pelletier, have gotta have it tough on the set of the Twilight sequel New Moon, where they play the “Wolf Pack.” Who, obviously, are werewolves.

1) They are all of Native American descent, which means we probably killed off all their ancestors.

2) They are joining the cast and Taylor Lautner, 17, who played secret werewolf Jacob Black in Twilight.

3) Casting had to be humiliating.

4) They are filming in Vancouver right now, which means these shirtless dudes are running around outside for hours on end, probably in the middle of the freezing night, flexing their abs and acting like crazy people.

5) Yeah, they all look good, but since Robert Pattinson is like the new sliced-bread, they’re just “set dressing” for the tweens coming to the big-muscle-man show.

Either way, these guys have it tough. This is our first look at them via USA Today.

God damn, that is badass.

I haven’t written about Kick-Ass since December, so here’s the down low for those that are just joining us. Mark Millar wrote a comic book about an everyday kid that decides to become a superhero and the real-life consequences that would transpire. Millar managed to get this movie funded privately before the comic even hit the shelves, and when the indie comic was uber-successful in its first few issues, the film started shooting.

The flick stars Aaron Johnson as Kick-Ass/Dave Lizewski, an everyday teenager who decides to become a superhero. But unlike Spider-Man and other film heroes, an hyper-violent world of crime is waiting for Kick-Ass. Including an 11 year old murderess named Hit Girl who runs around killing those she considers to be villains.

And that’s what you’re looking at above.

And I’m in love with the idea of watching little Chloe Moretz becoming a stone-cold killer in an R-rated superhero-deconstruction flick. In love with it.

Industry lingo time! Today’s interesting term you may or may not be familiar with is “Style Board.” Much like storyboards show shot-by-shot how the story will be told visually, the style boards, as you can probably guess, show the visual style of the film

The style boards we have access to today are from the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. John Hillcoats directed Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and 12-year-old Kodi Smit McPhee in the film adaptation for Miramax. Last year, it looked like the film could make the Oscar season, but was unceremoniously pulled for the line-up and is currently re-shuffled to October of this year.

The book is depressing, but McCarthy knows his atmosphere, which is why these watercolors, sketches and photo montages from Production Designer Chris Kennedy are so stunning in picking up a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Most of what I’ve seen from this movie has looked really brown, dirty and muddy, but these frames pop and still get across that end-is-neigh look.

CLICK HERE to go to the Flickr page of all the style boards.

In case you’ve felt a little woozy after almost a whole year gearing up for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I’ve brought a breath of fresh air for the Harry Potter super-fanatic: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were all at London’s West End this week filming scenes for the two-parter Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The book, which covers the final battle between Voldemort and the boy wizard, as well as a series of actions scenes and one sure-to-be interesting sequence that mostly involves camping in some enchanted tent, was long enough to get split into two films. Warner Bros was good enough to give the eighth film a green-light, laughing in Scholastic’s face because they got one more marketable property than the bookseller.

I’m a little rusty on my Hallows, but I do know a stunning-looking Emma Watson when I see her. Too bad her boyfriend’s reported as being around the set.

UPDATE: After the cut, I’ve added 31 more photos of the main trio filming in London’s SoHo neighborhood. So many pictures!

Take a gander at the monster from JJ Abram’s Star Trek. I say “the” monster without any sort of pre-knowledge about how many monsters or if more than one monster shows up in the film, and I suppose it really is more alien than monster if we’re going to be splitting hairs.

The photo is from a Wired spread with creature designer Neville Page who did creature design for Cloverfield as well as the upcoming Avatar and Piranha 3D. This particular monster is supposed to look sort of like a snow anus, I kid you not…

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is shooting in Manhattan, spending much of last weekend filming a Chinese New Year in the wee hours of the morning, filling the streets with trash that I’m sure an army of PAs had to sweep up between certain takes.

Imagine my surprise after our last group of on set photos to be contacted by someone claiming to be on the inside with a few mysterious and sometimes blurry photographs, including the above picture which appears to be a set-in-progress of a Crysler Building facade. Will Jay Baruchel’s apprentice be conducting from one of New York’s most recognizable buildings?

More inside…

true_blood.jpg

HBO is pulling quite the impressive stunt with True Blood. The series was the first to pull HBO’s numbers back up into the respectable after The Sopranos went away and Generation Kill and John Adams both went the miniseries route instead of the full-blown serial.

True Blood did so well that HBO picked it up for a second season before critics and viewers alike we ready to call Suki and Bill characters we’d be willing to spend a few Sundays with. The announcement that a second season would be coming around sent HBO’s True Blood website into a flurry of fan activity and - this is a hypothesis - I believe convinced us all to keep watching it.

True Blood is not the highest of drama, what with all the nipples and vampires that live by some different set of rules, but letting an audience know that they would be paying for a second season of True Blood while they are paying for their HBO subscription. For me, at least, that sent the message that these characters were going to be around for awhile, and it was fine if they took their own sweet time to develop. Not to mention that season one revealed who the serial killer was, but did not bring him to justice.

Now, True Blood’s marketing has taken the form of these stunning posters touting the series’ return in June.

Who’s coming back for more? Well, I’m still paying for HBO, so that’s still a fraction of my money going to more Anna Paquin boobs.
