We have a very personal connection to the first Ben Affleck Daredevil movie. It’s not a good movie, nor a good connection, but we’ll always remember it. Well, Dave will.
Dave wrecked his first and only car on the way to see Daredevil on Valentine’s Day (he was dateless, as is usually the case on V-Day). It was raining and some idiot came to a full stop on the highway. Dave hit the brakes, then hit the idiot, then was hit from behind at 60 MPH. The idiot drove off, the cops said it wasn’t Dave’s fault, but the car was totaled.
You can imagine his anguish when he finally saw Daredevil: “I wrecked my car trying to see this shit?”
Now, The LA Times has an interesting Post-Comic Con piece about a conversation between Frank Millar (comic genius, first time director of The Spirit) and Jason Statham (currently shooting Crank 2, but at Comic Con to promote Death Race):
Sitting with Statham and Miller, it was easy to get excited about the idea of another “Daredevil” movie, one that was not a remake as much as it was a new installment. Hey Miller is the man who wrote the “Born Again” story arc in “Daredevil” — there’s plenty he could do with the character in a new movie. Statham said he is eager to work with Miller at some point and that he adores the Daredevil character. I made the mistake of asking Statham if might not make a better Bullseye than Matt Murdock and I thought he might hit me with his pint glass. “Forget Bullseye, I want to be Daredevil!” Miller nodded. “I think he should be Daredevil too.”
Yes, this is a pipe dream, especially since Millar made a name for himself on Daredevil lines like “Born Again” back in the early 80s. The good thing about Statham is that he’s an action guy, as opposed to – say – Ben Affleck.
Here’s to hoping that if enough people read this, someone will pay attention.

Steve Niles, one of Fangoria Magazine’s “13 rising talents who promise to keep us terrified for the next 25 years” and writer/creator of the comic 30 Days of Night, later adapted into the film, was involved in some sort of “altercation” on the floor of Sunday’s Comic Con.
We get this from Ryan Rotten:
A fight broke about between the 30 Days of Night creator and an unidentified man. Security personnel got involved and the physical scrap was brought to an end. Police were later called to the scene, but at that point, tempers had faded.
I spoke with Niles this afternoon and he told me, in short, that he was attacked and had no choice but to defend himself. (Witnesses tell us did a pretty damn good job of it, too.) He walked away with minimal injuries.
As for the other guy, we’re not sure (no one from the other side has stepped forward to talk about it).
Some commenters online have suggested that Steve might have thrown the first “sucker punch,” but thus far no actual reports to the contrary of the above have been filed.
What could possibly cause a Comic Con goer to attack Steve Niles?

The Wolfman, the upcoming Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins horror flick, looks more like classic horror than some sort of studio tent-pole, and with Hugo Weaving rounding out the male headlines and Rick Baker doing the Wolfman make-up, this film looks like it could be a very different beast from the rest of the “horror” we’ve been getting these days.
Does The Wolfman have what it takes?
Those who saw Comic Con footage were hopeful, and – for now – you can see what they saw…after the cut!

We don’t know about you, but we need new wallpaper.
One of the things they don’t tell you about blogging when you sign up is how often you change your desktop background, because you can only look at retro flying toasters for so long before you want to puke.
This week, the Terminator: Salvation poster debuted at Comic Con, and now we can bring you a hi-res, shadowless version.
This is tiled on our desktop. We give it 8 days before we get tired of noticing all the cool details (lighting eyes!).
Click to make bigger, as always:

Some awesome stuff is coming out of San Diego for both the casual film fan and the super-geek comic/cartoon/action-figure/film sect.
Sadly, Dave is in Golden Colorado, writing all this to you while he simultaneously irons his slacks, cleans his jacket and looks up how to tie neckties in knots that aren’t double or single Windsor (that’s so boring). Dave could not be farther from Comic Con, but he’s keeping his ear to the ground with everyone else.
Below the cut, we’ll show you the new Terminator Salvation poster and point you in the direction of Terminatior panel coverage, we’ll discuss Dollhouse’s reshot pilot from the Joss Whedon panel, we’ve got some info on the Land of the Lost teaser, and I Am Legend prequel!

We don’t know about you, but after that trailer, we’re reading along with SuperHeroHype’s live blogging of the Watchmen panel at Comic Con (HERE).

We’re not in San Diego, but from all accounts, if we would have stuck our head out the window yesterday when the Twilight panel kicked off, we would have heard the screaming from several states away.
Capone from AICN writes:
Although this is my first time at this event, I had a pretty good idea what to expect at the panels, but nothing quite prepared me for what I’m guessing is an atypical event here. The panel for TWILIGHT was louder than any rock concert I’ve ever been to, with each of the cast members being greeted by a slightly younger-than-normal audience of several thousand adoring, mostly female fans of the book by Stephenie Myer. The result of the nearly hour-long panel was partial deafness for me.
This is echoed across the board, with several journalists shaking out the ringing in their ears before getting down to the nitty-gritty of the Twilight panel…

The internets have lit up with news from the Disney panel that three minutes of the oft-rumored, but never confirmed sequel to 1982’s Tron. The footage started without any further announcement and features a race as well as 2008 Jeff Bridges reprising his role as Kevin Flynn, but also…young Jeff Bridges.
Of all the coverage we’ve read, the best Tron description goes to AICN with their detailed write up and certain amount of fanboyism. Read it HERE.

Oh man, the different things that we’ve seen on other people’s Comic Con coverage. If you think that some of your favorite film blogs were a little slow yesterday, it was probably because they were on their way to San Diego for Comic Con, which has quickly become much less about Comic Books and much more about exciting the geek audience for your upcoming film and TV slates.
The great thing about not being at Comic Con is that we get to sit around and surf the internet from our comfy chairs whilst everyone else has to surf the internet while waiting in lines for panels or in uncomfortable convention seats.
That being said, we’re going to cover the Comic Con coverage of a few key players. Today, we look through the best of the Comic Con preview night pictures, and will point you in the direction of a review for JJ Abrams’ newest TV pilot, Fringe, which screened last night…

UPDATE: Dave Chen from /Film has the video.
This just in from Coming Soon’s Blake Wright:
The San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H presentations didn’t get off to a good start today as the drapes and the scaffolding supporting the drapes at the rear of the room collapsed. We saw that at least one person was injured. We’ve been told that this will delay the Fox presentation. Stay tuned for full coverage of the presentations shortly!
We will be staying tuned, because we aren’t in San Diego this year, so we’re going to be bringing you the best in what other people are bringing you from this years Comic Con.
It’s gonna be a fun weekend!
