Kiera Knightley is in Clevedon, UK shooting outdoor scenes for Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go. The film is adapted from the the novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro. Set in the nineties, it follows a woman who looks back at her school days and is described as a sci-fi thriller with a cloning theme.

Which is interesting, because this particular book doesn’t come right out and say what’s going on, so I’m tempted to not really clarify on this “cloning theme” or why Kiera’s character, Kathy H. is in a school girl outfit.
Really, if you want to know the plot, check out the book.

The Clevedon Pier is the only “Grade I-listed” pier in the country, whatever that means. But that’s your random factoid to replace the sentence I was going to use to spoil the movie for you.

In case you’ve felt a little woozy after almost a whole year gearing up for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, I’ve brought a breath of fresh air for the Harry Potter super-fanatic: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson were all at London’s West End this week filming scenes for the two-parter Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The book, which covers the final battle between Voldemort and the boy wizard, as well as a series of actions scenes and one sure-to-be interesting sequence that mostly involves camping in some enchanted tent, was long enough to get split into two films. Warner Bros was good enough to give the eighth film a green-light, laughing in Scholastic’s face because they got one more marketable property than the bookseller.

I’m a little rusty on my Hallows, but I do know a stunning-looking Emma Watson when I see her. Too bad her boyfriend’s reported as being around the set.

UPDATE: After the cut, I’ve added 31 more photos of the main trio filming in London’s SoHo neighborhood. So many pictures!

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is shooting in Manhattan, spending much of last weekend filming a Chinese New Year in the wee hours of the morning, filling the streets with trash that I’m sure an army of PAs had to sweep up between certain takes.

Imagine my surprise after our last group of on set photos to be contacted by someone claiming to be on the inside with a few mysterious and sometimes blurry photographs, including the above picture which appears to be a set-in-progress of a Crysler Building facade. Will Jay Baruchel’s apprentice be conducting from one of New York’s most recognizable buildings?

More inside…

surrogates_banner.jpg

Bruce Willis is in a sci-fi movie called The Surrogates, where the titular surrogates are our robot people that live for us as we (humans) live in some sort of future isolation. It’s being directed by Jonathan Mostow, to guy who dealt with people/machines in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (I wonder how he feels about having his story deemed non-canonical?).

Best I can tell, though, when The Surrogates crew shut off a few blocks of downtown LA on Easter Sunday to shoot some large action sequences, involving a falling blond beauty and a car with its windshield blown out, only stunt doubles and stand ins…I’m sorry…only surrogates were on the set for The Surrogates.

Given that it was Easter, the job probably went to bald, single stuntmen of a certain age, which is what I’m thinking when I look at the above picture. Just him staring off into the distance hoping…HOPING!…that he just might look enough like Bruce Willis from Die Hard to get that blond to go home with him.

Wonder how that worked out?

Yes, officer! Yes, officer!

Sorry, that’s just my reaction to seeing a police that isn’t Lt. Daniels from The Wire. Obviously, I’d call him “sir.”

Horton Foote, the guy who won an Oscar for the screenplay for To Kill A Mockingbird and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1995 for his play The Young Man From Atlanta, died in March. His final screenplay was called Main Street, and it is filming now in Durham. N.C under the direction of Tony Award winner John Doyle.

Ellen Burstyn, Andrew McCarthy, Patricia Clarkson and Colin Firth join Bloom in the piece, produced by Reliant Pictures.

More fun from the set of the Rum Diary, the Hunter Thompson adaptation, where Johnny Depp as Paul Kemp drives a “classic” Fiat 500. The man in the car with him isn’t named in the photo credits, but my best guess is that it’s Michael Rispoli, who plays Bob Sala in the film.

There’s something very comical about two big men in a little car.

Kevin Costner: “All I’m saying is, don’t make a Waterworld like mistake, you know?”

Ben Affleck: “Are you kidding? Did you see the numbers on Daredevil? or Jersey Girl? I’m already there, bro!”

Costner and Affleck are in Boston, MA shooting for their new pic Company Men, which, in such a timely manner, is about the financial crisis. Sorta. Affleck plays a white collar jackass who wakes up on day to find his job and his salary have gone the way of Lehmen Bros. Kevin Costner is is brother-in-law who offers him a blue-collar construction job. Tommy Lee Jones (not pictured, sadly) is set to star as one of Affleck’s previous employers who slowly sees the evil actions of his corporate peers for what they really are.

The film will be the film debut of director John Wells (previously ER). Check for this one around 2010.
