Industry lingo time! Today’s interesting term you may or may not be familiar with is “Style Board.” Much like storyboards show shot-by-shot how the story will be told visually, the style boards, as you can probably guess, show the visual style of the film

The style boards we have access to today are from the film adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. John Hillcoats directed Viggo Mortensen, Robert Duvall, Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and 12-year-old Kodi Smit McPhee in the film adaptation for Miramax. Last year, it looked like the film could make the Oscar season, but was unceremoniously pulled for the line-up and is currently re-shuffled to October of this year.

The book is depressing, but McCarthy knows his atmosphere, which is why these watercolors, sketches and photo montages from Production Designer Chris Kennedy are so stunning in picking up a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Most of what I’ve seen from this movie has looked really brown, dirty and muddy, but these frames pop and still get across that end-is-neigh look.

CLICK HERE to go to the Flickr page of all the style boards.

Max Payne comes out today, much to the ‘delight’ of A.O. Scott and the rest of the Internet. And while we know Mark Wahlberg isn’t a big fan of the SNL parodying him, we think we figured out why.

Because SNL is mocking Marky Mark’s actual ability to speak with animals. Sure, he can talk to a donkey, a chicken or a dog with ease. But we think he was really disappointed when his innate skill was utterly exploited by NBC. We did some research and found a few animals that Mr. Wahlberg has–on record–never been able to talk to.

5) Slowpokefield

Why Not?
Because it’s a fictional hybrid between a Slowpoke and a CGI monstrosity. Also, it had no mother Wahlberg could say hello to.

4) Bees

Why Not?
They all died before he had a chance to ask, “How’s it going, Bee?”

3) Megalodon

Why Not?
This video will show you why not.

2) Tigger

Why Not?
Cause Tigger isn’t real.

1) Longcat

Why Not?
Longcat is Long.

Who knew “porno” was such a naughty word?

Nearly 15 stations have dropped or refuse to carry the commercials for Kevin Smith’s wonderfully titled Zack and Miri Make A Porno due to the graphic nature of the title. For some reason, the hardest hit were those watching a Los Angeles Dodgers game, which the AP has in all of its’ Onion-esque satire:

Commercials for the film during Los Angeles Dodgers games on Fox Sports were dropped at the team’s request after some viewers complained, said Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch.

One complaint came from a man watching a game in September with his young son, who did not understand a suicide-squeeze bunt the Dodgers tried, Rawitch said.

“He was explaining to his son what a squeeze bunt was. Commercial break, the ad comes on, and the kid asks, `Dad, what does porno mean?’” Rawitch said. “Dodgers baseball has always been about family, and we’ve always been sensitive to the type of advertising that runs on our games.”

Even bus shelters in Philadelphia, a so-called city of “Brotherly Love,” has deemed the cutesy stick figure poster too risque:

Rina Cutler, Philadelphia deputy mayor for transportation, said the stick-figure posters were cute and clever but unacceptable for bus shelters where schoolchildren would see the word “porno.”

“If they want to call the movie `Zack and Miri,’ that’s fine, but Zack and Miri cannot make a porno on my bus shelters,” Cutler said.

Fine! Then Zack and Miri will make a porno somewhere else! Like, in theaters on October 31st! Pfft!

Good news, everyone! Here’s a widget to watch a trailer that will premiere Thursday night. And more stills from Twilight have come to surface. In it, we find the Pale Emo Vampire (Robert Pattinson) is looking at things. In the other still, he’s looking at Generic Pale Human Girl (Kristen Stewart) and they’re sitting in front of a body of water.
