Today, we have some on set photos for you from the set of The Picture of Dorian Gray, an Oliver Parker film-adaptation of the Oscar Wilde novel about an attractive London man who secretly hides his age and evil deeds through a magical portrait.
Obviously, the film is probably going to be much more serious than that synopsis, but The Picture of Dorian Gray is one of those Oscar Wilde books you just kind of pick up for some ancillary reason. Like Dave read it when the horrible film adaptation of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman added Dorian Grey to their crappy movie, played by , the guy who was supposed to be Aragorn in the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy until he turned out to be too young.
Now, we’ve got some nice pictures of Ben Barnes, aka Prince Caspian, as the titular character, looking sexy in Victorian garb from a few angles (and in motion!). Rounding out the photoset are what appears to be Colin Firth slightly aged into Lord Henry Wotton, and Emilia Fox in period garb as Lady Victoria Wotton.
Mmmm. Victorian garb. If only it wasn’t so uncomfortable.

We don’t know what the deal is, but we know two people who have just finished reading The Picture of Doran Grey by Oscar Wilde. We know these people personally, and, yeah, we know they read. It’s just they’ve both talked about how the homosexual undertones really aren’t undertones.
It was described to us as a semi-charmed existence, where these dudes just hang out with other dudes in an old fashioned aristocracy.
Then again, Dorian Grey himself has his whole “magical” painting that shows his wickedness and age for him while his pretty little face stays pretty and little.
The above photo from Shock Till You Drop shows Ben Barnes as Grey and Colin Firth being…we’re guessing Colin Firth. Or maybe one of Grey’s foppish friends.
Either way, this is the first still released from the pic, as director Oliver Parker has recently started production at London’s Ealing Studios.

In an unprecedented move, Ealing Studios has decide to adapt the brilliant Oscar Wilde novel The Picture Of Dorian Gray into a full length feature film of the same title. How consumers will react to this iconoclastic, zeitgeist destroying move is anyone’s guess. Colin Firth and Ben Barnes are set to star.I know I’m cynical, but in all honesty this looks like it might actually pretty cool, and if they use any of Wilde’s original writing it will at least have great dialogue. Hazzah for the British!
