Look at the picture above, all those people are now jobless.
StarTrek.com was updated with the following message this Friday:
Goodbye from the STARTREK.COM Team
Sadly, we must report that CBS Interactive organization is being restructured, and the production team that brings you the STARTREK.COM site has been eliminated. Effective immediately.
We don’t know the ultimate fate of this site, which has served millions of Star Trek fans for the last thirteen years.
If you have comments, please send them to editor @ startrek.com - we hope someone at CBS will read them.
Thank you for your loyal fandom over the years. It has been a pleasure to serve you.
Translation: maybe the internet is more valuable than CBS thinks.
We don’t think we’re chasing ghosts when we say that this is WGA strike related. The firing of an entire web organization means that this is a severe restructuring, also on the eve of possible JJ Abrams Start Trek we presence.
StarTrek.com does not have a current affiliation with Paramount, meaning that as the website restructures to provide a more viable online business model, the film will probably continue, relying on fan sites to disseminate Star Trek news and rumors.
Interesting how the AMPTP still won’t admit that internet episode streaming and online content is a huge source of income, but they are ready to tear everything down and start over in a search for profits.
May they live short and languish.
