Getting sick of hearing about Wolverine yet? 20th Century Fox hopes not. Just in case you’re still undecided about seeing X-Men Origins: Wolverine this weekend to kick off the summer movie season, the director of the flick, Gavin Hood (who may or may not have sparred with execs on set) has announced that there will be multiple secret endings tacked onto different prints of the X-Men prequel when it comes out. Remember how only you and a few other folks knew to stay until after the credits during Iron Man to see Nick Fury? Yeah, it’s gonna be like that….

From FirstShowing:

Hood didn’t say how many different endings there would be. As for the other differences between the leaked version and the final cut, Hood explained that there were 400 unfinished visual effects shots and that there was no score, unfinished sound mixing, and unfinished coloring. However, he didn’t mention anything about differences in footage.

Anyone else getting the faint whiff of Fox bullshit from this one? I understand the director needing to step out in front of a screening and tell people that the leaked movie they can still get online isn’t “technically” done, though the edit and story might be the same, but adding “multiple secret endings?” And not telling us just how many endings there are?

Here’s my thought: 1 Deadpool ending, 1 “character we forgot ending,” 1 Wolverine leading into the first X-Men ending. The “Character we forgot ending” is when we cut back to The Blob or some mutant that already played his part and he’s, you know, working out or something. Something that show he’s still around after the story (really, this ending should be Gambit’s if they know what’s good for them).

But, really, a Deadpool ending is in the cards. I don’t want to spoil the film for anyone that’s still waiting, but knowing what we know about Deadpool and how this film ends, the character needs a shot in the arm to come back into the spotlight. Or maybe a shot in the neck.

Anyway, this smells like a whole bunch of crap gimmick to get your butt in the seats multiple times. Honestly, the way Fox has been handling this, there could only be one secret ending that the majority of the country gets and one other ending that NY and LA get, and the internet would blur the line between “two endings” and “multiple endings” long enough for most people to see the movie another time, possibly 3 times.

And, importantly, the ending isn’t really going to change the movie.

Gimmick, yes. Will I be staying after the credits, yes, but not twice. Not unless Wolverine warrents being seen twice in theaters. And for $11.00, I’m thinking it isn’t.
