After a solid year of me wondering what is up with Robert Rodriguez and his difficulty getting any sort of adult-themed project going despite the constant swirling of rumors, Rodriguez and his Troublemaker Studios had a news conference yesterday in part to commemorate HB 873, a re-working of the Texas film-incentive program.
Robert also announced his next 5 films, and they all seem to be the ones he was rumor to be attached to. Besides the re-boot of Predator that the post title gave away, I think you’ll be surprised how recognizable some of the announced flicks are…
From IESB:
Rodriguez talked to the audience of press members and revealed his upcoming film slate.
“I’m going to be able to shoot my upcoming Machete here, a sci-fi action film called Nerverackers, a re-boot of the Predator series called Predators, and a couple of smaller movies called Sin City 2 and The Jetsons.”
Whoa! Slow down, hoss!
First about Predators: Rodriguez will reportedly be both director and producer on the film.
Next, on Machete: Yes, the trailer that was at the beginning of Grindhouse with Danny Trejo as a Mexican with a bunch of machetes strapped to him is going to become a full-length movie. Robert wrote the script and will co-direct the film with his long- time editor Ethan Maniquis.
He’s also still expected to deliver Nerveracker by 2010. And, the Sin City 2 rights might still be up for grabs.
And the Jetsons? Well, I’d like to know more about both Rodriguez’s Jetsons and his Predators, but there’s just not that much information out there outside of: they are both coming OR Robert Rodriguez just knows how cool it looks to lay out your schedule for years on the same day some Texas film legislation has been signed.
I’m not saying that we won’t get these movies, but I am saying that each of these films has come up before as a Robert Rodriguez rumored picture, it’s just now they are coming in one large bundle. Each film is on it’s own path to getting made, and the only date we have is April 16th, 2010, when Nerveracker is supposed to come out.
