We’re not even 24 hours away from breaking the news that Kenneth Branagh is looking at tall, muscular blonde boys to play Thor and already people are chomping at the bit to get in Russian Roulette of casting guesses for the film’s villian, Loki, the trickster God.
Loki’s name will always be synonymous with The Mask for me, mostly because of the 90’s Carry/Diaz version that ended up being some of the best work either of those actors did. But we’re talking villainous Loki here, not mischievous Loki!
Who has me shaking my head when their name is mentioned as the bad god?

Aw, shit? The pretty boy?
IESB reports:
Loki isn’t a very nice guy. He’s quite treacherous* actually and fancies himself the God of Mischief. He is repeatedly trying to get rid of Thor and seize the throne of Asgard for himself. One thing led to another and he ended up being the God of Evil. What will his role in Marvel’s live action adaptation? Probably something similar*, we know he’s the main baddie.
Who does Brannagh want to bring this evil character to life? Try Josh Hartnett. IESB sources say Hartnett has met with Brannagh as well and he is currently on a very short list to play the villain in the film.
[* I’m not one to lecture, but I did correct the spelling mistakes on these words]
Good news: short list means he doesn’t have it yet.
Bad news: JOSH HARTNETT? Word on the street was that back in my old neighborhood bar, someone was taking up the bathroom for too long. When the bartender finally unlocked it from the outside, Josh Hartnett was being very inappropriate with two girls in that bathroom.
Personal rumors aside, what was the last movie I didn’t mind Hartnett in? The guy only did two films right at those were 40 Days and 40 Nights and Black Hawk Down. Everything else he is either forgettable or bad in.
And don’t start waving that righteous “You didn’t think Heath Ledger would be a good Joker, either” stick at me, mister.
