There has been a mini debate inside my head that made me go all crazy the past few days. I took a week off to work on the set of an independent film and I had John fill in for me. I tried to keep my ear to the ground, but when I came back, there was a new Wolverine Trailer were the above Frankenstien-looking monster with the powers of both Wolverine and Cyclops was featured.

Previously, I had thought this character to be the scarred version of Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool because of what was later reported as an inaccurately labeled toy. Then, a few readers did some background research into the Weapon XI of the Marvel mythos, a mutant that has the combined DNA of the others. Weapon XI was to be played by Wade Wilson, a stunt-man who also stepped in for Reynolds.

Now, I’ve found an early review of the film and it has an answer for me. One of the above theories is right and the SPOILER is inside. It’s Occam’s Razor for sure…

From We Are Movie Geeks:

Cut to the “lab” scene from the trailer, new steel blades ready to do some serious damage. I don’t want to give it away, but one of my favorite parts of the movie is when we find out where the name “Wolverine” comes from… oooh I just got goosebumps thinking about it… haha. HUGE SPOILER: “the crazy mad scientist, Stryker, is kidnapping them all (mutants) and keeping them prisoners because he is takin their DNA to make a Super Mutant…one guy with ALL the powers…IT’S RYAN REYNOLD’S CHARACTER, Wade Wilson / Deadpool….its so creepy when you see him at the end!!”

If you’re a Deadpool fan from the comics era, I’m guessing this development isn’t pleasing you. If Reynolds is the Big Bad in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, that means he’ll likely end up dead…for a few minutes. I know that there’s something after the credits for fans who stick around, and who wants to be it’s some way to redeem Reynold’s Deadpool and set him up for a spin-off?
