Once again, it’s time for me to wrap up the production stories of the week in one big “things you should keep an eye” on fashion. This week, Robert Ludlum spews multiple properties across the board, Ridley Scott abandons Nottingham, Shia LaBeouf will be legally thrilling, Reese Witherspoon teams with Iron Man for a sci-fi actioneer, Halle Berry is a jewel thief, Johnny Quest gets lamer and War Games might be in line for a remake…
Last week, we mentioned that Tom Cruise and Denzel Washington were attached to the Robert Ludlum adaptation The Matarese Circle. But that’s only one of FIVE Ludlum books coming down the pipeline. Captive Entertainment reports that The Parsifal Mosaic is on it’s way to Universal, but will not be the 4th Bourne film. The next Jason Bourne serial will be an original story. Outside of Bourne, The Sigma Protocol, currently being adapted by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. That leaves only The Matarese Countdown, which is actually the sequel to teh Matarese Circle, but the rights to that book were secured in case Tommy Boy and Denzel want to sequalize thier Cronenberg effort.
Ridley Scott has been working on a new Robin Hood movie we all thought was going to be called Nottignham. We heard that Russel Crowe was on board to play both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham, because they would be the same person. Now, Scott says that the film is actually called Robin Hood and isn’t so much about the Sheriff as it is about the control of Nottingham by…France? I don’t think this guy knows what movie he’s making yet.
William Monahan, Oscar-winning writer of The Departed has been hired to adapt John Grisham’s The Associate, which is supposed to star Shia LaBeouf. More HERE at /Film.
There’s a movie called Days Before written by a guy named Chad St. John and produced by one of the producers of 300, Gianni Nunnari (take a moment and try to say it out loud). It has Robert Downey Jr and Reese Witherspoon circling it and it focuses on time-travelling aliens who go back one day at a time killing humanity and the one man who is a day ahead of them trying to stop it.
Halle Berry is attached to star in Who Is Doris Payne, a Eunetta Boone-scripted fact-based film about an international jewel thief whose career spanned five decades, reports Variety. Not that I can tell you who Doris Payne is…
Warner Bros live action Johnny Quest, which could have been cool, is placed on notice because they want to make Johnny 18 instead of 12 so Zac Efron can play him and they’re looking at Dwayne The Rock Johnson to play Race Banner. Suck it, WB.
Is Leonardo DiCaprio going to re-make the 80s cold-war thriller War Games? You know the one. It was, like, one of the first computer geek movies ever that went legit. Well, it looks like it might be coming around for a remake. Again.
