We were watching The Office yesterday when a trailer for Yes Man came on. This began a short argument about everyone’s personal feelings about Yes Man, and Jim Carrey in general.
It was he general opinion that Yes Man was a Liar Liar knock-off and a move of desperation on behalf of Jim Carrey. Dave was alone in expressing the opinion that there are certain movies written as Jim Carrey movies (Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, The Mask) and other movies where Jim Carrey forces his humor in (Grinch, Series of Unfortunate Events).
If Yes Man turns out to be anything like it’s preview, then Dave thinks it’s a Jim Carrey movie with Jim Carrey in it, so it’s possible that Carrey isn’t that bad in it.
The I Love You Phillip Morris trailer, on the other hand, makes it look like one of those movies that is going to toe the line. Freaking out while waiting for the elevator? Jumping off a roof? That’s Jim Carrey. Going gay for Ewan McGregor in prison? That’s Jim Carrey forced into a non-Carrey role.
Make up your own mind, after the cut…
