Last night, Dave was up much later than he should have been watching 17 minutes of “The Angry Video Game Nerd” reviewing the original Ghostbusters video game for the NES. Remember that piece of crap that neglected to tell you it was nearly unbeatable without a Game Genie? Because that crap was Activision squeezing all the money they could off a popular 80s franchise.

That damn game made us so paranoid of Ghostbusters video games that we missed out on The Real Ghostbusters arcade game, Ghostbusters II, New Ghostbusters 2, Ghostbusters for Sega, Extreme Ghostbusters, Extreme Ghostbusters: Code Ecto-1, Extreme Ghostbusters: The Ultimate Invasion, and the Ghostbusters mobile game (which, honestly, we wouldn’t have played anyway).

We’ve had such a jones for new and original Ghostbusters stories, that we watched the entire Return of the Ghostbusters fan film, and liked it so much, we stuck it in our post called “Fan Films That Don’t Suck.

When news came out a year ago that a Ghostbusters video game is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii, we were psyched. When Dan Ackroyd said that the original cast was back to do voice acting and motion capture, we were thrilled.

No matter how many rumors we here about Ghostbusters 3, we know that the video game will continue the original storyline, taking place in the early 90s, when the Ghostbusters have been promoted to a civic sponsored service, lorded over by Walter Peck from the first Ghostbusters (William Atherton is even returning to do the voice).

The first “preview” has hit and the highest compliment we can give it - the highest - is that it looks to have captured the original actors well, including Bill Murray’s mo-capped body movement.

Yeah, we shit ourselves. And you can too, under the cut…
