Mickey Rourke looks like hell these days, and maybe that’s why you instantly bond to his character from The Wrestler in the 2 minutes and 30 seconds that the first trailer has to sell you the film. He looks broken, and the trailer does just enough to show you that we’re going along with this broken man to find out how he copes with his stripper girlfriend (Marissa Tomei) and his estranged daughter (Evan Rachel Wood).

Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain) isn’t exactly known for small character films, but The Wrestler looks like one that will be a diamond in the twilight of Mickey Rourke’s career.
