Mark Millar, the comic book writer behind Wanted and the upcoming Kick-Ass has said publicly that he has an idea for a new Superman relaunch, and now that no Supes is in the pipeline, he’s starting to talk about it a little bit more…
Millar spoke with Empire Magazine about his epic Superman trilogy, and it sounds like quite the drastic re-boot:
“It’s gonna be like Michael Corleone in the Godfather films, the entire story from beginning to end, you see where he starts, how he becomes who he becomes, and where that takes him. The Dark Knight showed you can take a comic book property and make a serious film, and I think the studios are ready to listen to bigger ideas now.”
[…]
“I want to start on Krypton, a thousand years ago, and end with Superman alone on Planet Earth, the last being left on the planet, as the yellow sun turns red and starts to supernova, and he loses his powers.”
Three films, 8 hours. Millar say all three would be filmed simultaneously and released a year apart like Lord of the Rings.
Outside of Batman, Warner Bros hasn’t been making the most of their other DC characters, and seeing yet another Superman origin story is sure to make Millar’s first film drag.
But the promise of following the entire history of the Man of Steel does sound like about 4 hours of fun.
