There’s a fake trailer for DC/WB’s The Flash movie adaptation floating around out there. It claims to have been shown in front of the Portland, Oregon Watchmen Screening, but no reports of such a trailer have graced our pretty little ears (smaller ears are pretty, right?).
/Film has stepped out and declared this trailer a fake, and we’re apt to agree with them, but oh what a fake it is, right down to multiple angles…
This is the first video to be brought to our attention:
Now, this was obviously made by someone who knows how to fake film trailers, let’s assume a film student or a film-geek with a lot of time on his hands to add some after-effects to some file footage and a few hours shot with a 3-chip digital camera (HVX would be our guess).
Whomever did the sound mixing totally flubbed it for the fake trailer crowd. One, the newscaster’s voice gives the trailer away, simply because no one would ever cast a guy who sounded like a high-school junior film editor as a newscaster in a high-risk DC property.
Our best guess concerning the nifty trick of making it look like a theater is this: It was filmed by a person with a hand-held camera standing to the left and about 10 feet back from a screening room screen, found in many colleges and even certain personal homes (not Dave’s, of course, because he’s poor). The “cheering” that is heard at the end of the trailer is strangely distant. As people who watch a lot of bootleg trailers online, we know that the screaming of the fans is usually deafening, especially when you sit amongst them. We suspect that the fan cheers are actually in the sound-track to the trailer.
Two other clips of the exact same footage filmed from different angles may - at first - seem to support this being a real trailer, but after several viewings, the sound of both these clips give everything away: No reverb, muffled crowd noises. This clip was not shot in a real theater full of people.
Really, really admirable hoax though. Because DC should get off their ass and at least commit to another hero besides Batman. Marvel is lapping them twice over.
