We have a very personal connection to the first Ben Affleck Daredevil movie. It’s not a good movie, nor a good connection, but we’ll always remember it. Well, Dave will.

Dave wrecked his first and only car on the way to see Daredevil on Valentine’s Day (he was dateless, as is usually the case on V-Day). It was raining and some idiot came to a full stop on the highway. Dave hit the brakes, then hit the idiot, then was hit from behind at 60 MPH. The idiot drove off, the cops said it wasn’t Dave’s fault, but the car was totaled.

You can imagine his anguish when he finally saw Daredevil: “I wrecked my car trying to see this shit?”

Now, The LA Times has an interesting Post-Comic Con piece about a conversation between Frank Millar (comic genius, first time director of The Spirit) and Jason Statham (currently shooting Crank 2, but at Comic Con to promote Death Race):

Sitting with Statham and Miller, it was easy to get excited about the idea of another “Daredevil” movie, one that was not a remake as much as it was a new installment. Hey Miller is the man who wrote the “Born Again” story arc in “Daredevil” — there’s plenty he could do with the character in a new movie. Statham said he is eager to work with Miller at some point and that he adores the Daredevil character. I made the mistake of asking Statham if might not make a better Bullseye than Matt Murdock and I thought he might hit me with his pint glass. “Forget Bullseye, I want to be Daredevil!” Miller nodded. “I think he should be Daredevil too.”

Yes, this is a pipe dream, especially since Millar made a name for himself on Daredevil lines like “Born Again” back in the early 80s. The good thing about Statham is that he’s an action guy, as opposed to – say – Ben Affleck.

Here’s to hoping that if enough people read this, someone will pay attention.
