We’re almost entirely behind Tropic Thunder, as we explained yesterday when the international trailer showed up online. We think that Jack Black, Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr are talented actors who all-too-often get handed projects below their talents (or projects that can be phoned in, like family-friendly Night At The Museum).

Now, we finally have a reason to be excited for both the film as a whole and Brit-Comedy vet Steve Coogan, and that reason is Rain of Madness, a mockumentary within the Tropic Thunder story.

Tropic Thunder follows a film crew as they get way too deep into filming their Vietnam war film, drawing obvious comparisons to the real life drama behind Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. For those of you that consider yourself film buffs, you are probably aware that Coppola was best described as battling with madness throughout the shoot. This entire process was documented and narrated by Coppola’s wife Eleanor and turned into a 1991 film Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker’s Apocalypse.

Now, Tropic Thunder has launched an official site for their version of Hearts of Darkness, cleverly titled Rain of Madness (“Before the Thunder comes the Madness”).

If that isn’t enough, there’s a full preview (CLICK!) that showcases some nice Coogan, Black and Downey Jr.

No word yet on if this is going to be a full-length mockumentary or even anything outside of the preview, but we sure hope so.
