The American Federation of Television and Radio (AFTRA) has approved the AMPTP contract they negotiated in June by an adequate 64.2%. This includes the 44,000 AFTRA/SAG members, whom SAG is claiming voted against the contract.
The details of the contract aren’t as important now, because SAG is still without. The wedge has been inserted in-between the actor’s unions. SAG probably can’t get the 75% they need to start another strike.
The whole danger of AFTRA negotiating separately from SAG was that AFTRA would get muscled into a deal by the AMPTP and then would snatch up digital work while SAG was forced to ratify a deal they didn’t want.
That’s the position we’re in now, and SAG is expected to respond to the AMPTP’s “final offer” by Thursday.
Expect all to be well for everyone but the SAG brass, who probably have their tails between their legs.
