Eddie Murphy is now talking about Beverly Hills Cop 4. We don’t know how today started out with news that Eddie might be retiring, then was updated with news that Brett Ratner didn’t want to do a PG Beverly Hills Cop 4 as we all assumed based on an ambiguous report.

Now, we’re getting Eddie quotes about the return of Axel Foley courtesy of MTV…

“Because the third ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ was horrible!” the once and future Detective Axel Foley laughed. “I didn’t want to leave it like that. The first two were cool and the third one was sh—y. [Let’s] get the franchise fixed again, clean up this old mess and do a good movie.
“[Don’t] just leave Axel with his thumb up his a– from the last movie,” the comic continued, chuckling. “Whatever happened to Axel Foley? He’s sitting in Detroit with his thumb up his a– since ‘Beverly Hills Cop III.’ Let’s take those thumbs out and make a great movie!”

“All I know is that it’s gonna be something that’s special. I’m not doing just, hey give me some big check and I go off [does the Foley laugh] and shoot the gun and jump over cars,” Murphy told MTV News. “Like, that’s some bullsh-t. If I do it, it’s gonna be some sh-t that’s right!”

“I’ve been in a bunch of different meetings with people, ‘Oh, we have to take Axel this way.” I ain’t seen no script yet [but] I’m not rolling out ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ for it to be a continuation of ‘Beverly Hills Cop III,’ which was a crock of sh-t,” Murphy said. “I wanna do a good one!”

We want you to do a good one too, Eddie. We’re just not sure that you – or anyone – can.
