With more reviews pouring in of Dark Knight press screenings, it’s become very very VERY obvious that we are dealing with a superhero film that transcends the genre. AICN’s Moriarty has a piece that had us salivating to see Bats back on screen, especially after we caught up with our Tipster and got eyes on Hellboy II.

Now, Movie Web is officially the first site to bring up the Dark Knight sequel to members of the cast, notably Gary Oldman and director Christopher Nolan.

From Movie Web:

“Sirius Black might scare six year olds, but he doesn’t scare nine year olds. It’s hard to scare kids these days. Heath does. He scares everybody. This is one of the most frightening performances I have ever seen put on film.” When asked if he thought they should recast Ledger for the third film, or just not include the character, Gary thought it was a good idea, “I don’t see why not. I mean, they did it with Katie Holmes’ character. I understand that this is a different circumstance, but I think another actor could do the job. I think Heath would want another actor to do the job.”

Oldman then took a moment to think about it some more, “Maybe we don’t need the Joker. Because we’ll have The Riddler.”

Guh-What? We’re already speculating on the villain for the third film? Seems a little rash, not to mention that Nolan’s “real world” Batman goes through a lot of shit in The Dark Knight, is he going ot be ready to deal with The Riddler; a character always treated as little more than a walking gimmick.

The best example for comic fans might be Jeph Loeb’s Batman storyline “Hush” where they come right out and label the Riddler a bungler (though he ends up being responsible for everything, oddly).

The other interesting news is that no one knows yet of Nolan is going to keep turning out Batman-as-Art films, least of all Nolan himself who told the site: “I don’t know. I honestly have not taken a moment away from what is going on with the film now to even think about that. I don’t know. I simply don’t know.”

If Nolan comes back, expect the rest of the cast to return. IF Nolan comes back.

Otherwise, someone tell Clooney he might have a shot at bat-redemption.
