S. Darko, or Samantha D. Whatever you want to call it, the Donnie Darko sequel that managed to nab original Darko cast member Daveigh Chase has added some new female blood to it’s bastardly existence.
Call us short if you want, but it’s our opinion that small creative indie properties shouldn’t be shucked away from their creator without said creator’s permission. But, that’s neither here nor there…
From the link-a-phobic THR:
Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan have boarded “S. Darko” (aka “Samantha D”), the sequel to “Donnie Darko” being directed by Chris Fisher. Ash R. Shah is producing.
Ed Westwick (”Gossip Girl”) and Justin Chatwin (”The Chumscrubber”) also are in the movie, which stars Daveigh Chase, reprising her role from the original cult classic.
The odd thing about casting Elizabeth Berkley in anything is that whatever character she portrays has to be more interesting than seeing her boobs in Showgirls. If you manage to clear that hurdle, the next object is to make that character more interesting than Jessie from Saved By The Bell, which – sadly for S. Darko – isn’t gonna happen for the target age group.
Berkley isn’t exactly having the time of her career right now, so chances are she’s taking work where she can get it, and no-pull, she probably isn’t going to find a character we can bond with more than the Bell kids. We did let them into our houses weekly for as long as we can remember.
Then they went to college and we stopped caring.
