Choke Trailer Boosts Hope

Welcome back to the cinematic world of Chuck Palahniuk, author of Fight Club. Fight Club, though the best entry into Palahniuk’s world, is just a primer for how twisted, bizarre and hilarious his novels became in the years following Brad Pitt’s success at Tyler Durden.

We don’t want to give you idea that the man can do no wrong, because he can (Haunted), or that he somehow fell off the talented horse recently, because he didn’t (Rant), but his quirks are rarely brought to a film in the same way they are described in the novel . This trailer for September 26th’s Choke is no different.

The plot looks the same: a down-and-out sex-addict/med-school-dropout (enough hyphens for ya?) works as a historical reenactor and pretends to choke in expensive restaurants so rich people will “save” and support him, so he – in turn – can pay for his deranged mother’s treatment and learn the secret of his possibly divine birth.

Yeah, it’s weird. But you know who is going to pull this one off? Sam Rockwell…(trailer after the jump)…

That part of the preview where Kelly Macdonald says things go “off the deep end?” If the film is anything close to the book, she’s not kidding.

And, we happen to have some friends who worked on set in the abandoned Jersey hospital where Choke was filmed. And they say their movie is awesome.

This trailer makes us believe it for the first time.
