DONNIE DARKO, the film that made Jake Gyllenhaal famous, is getting a sequel.
S. DARKO, starts shooting in 2 days with Daveigh Chase playing film’s namesake. It’s Donnie’s little sister, people! (Yes, also that creepy dead girl with the hair in her face from THE RING.) But a lot has happened since 2001. If you don’t have HBO, you might not know: Sam Darko grew up.
The film focuses on Gyllenhaal’s onscreen sib, 7 years after Donnie climbed into his deathbed. A bunch of good-looking Jake wannabes are set to star but that’s not what you cult readers came for (and, quite frankly, I’m sick of reading about Ed Westwick and his ilk). An appearance by the original gangsta cotton-tail, Frank, has still not been confirmed. Although Simon Crowe, head of the company that is selling S. DARKO, did make mention of rabbits during an interview at Cannes. I hope he wasn’t talking about this.
Richard Kelly is away making movies with Arcade Fire tunes, so don’t expect him to play any major role in S. DARKO’s making.
