“Pre-Pro” is short for pre-production. Some of you might know that already and think that we’re assholes to remind you, but for the one person that didn’t know it just made all the difference.

Kick-Ass is a Mark Millar comic that has its run on the Marvel Icon line. Millar has been getting as much comic work as Bendis recently, though we haven’t read much that he’s done after Civil War wrapped up and the Marvel Universe moved on to the next big cataclysmic event that will force us to buy comics over six different lines. Either way, Millar = trustworthy storyteller, even if he has some trouble properly capturing characters with years of backstory (we’re still pissed he essentially made Reed Richards into a Nazi).

Kick-Ass, on the other hand, is a new character; a 15-year-old boy named Dave Lizewski who wants to be a real life superhero despite having no powers and no large supply of money. He doesn’t even really have a reason to fight crime, the kid just wants to be a superhero.

The screenplay was adapted by Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn of floppish fantasy flick Stardust, and Vaughn is in talks to helm the project (so this is what he’s doing now that he’s lost Thor). Vaughn is payrolling the film through his production company MARV Films.

Casting has begun and the rumor over at Comic Book Resources is that the film is look for distribution but: ” “when news breaks on a certain actor they have lined up…”

Does that scream Shia LaBeouf to anyone else?

There is some viral marketing already taking place centered around Kick-Ass. /Film found a viral video, which – strangely – really makes us want to see this kid’s story.
