Is May 6th 2011 too far to look ahead? Not if you are Marvel, riding atop a wave of success that can only be dethroned by a larger-than-expected Speed Racer showing.

Cinema Blend is reporting that Marvel is jumping the gun already, talking about who is going to pick up the Captain America cowl for Cap’s big-screen debut.

One of our long time scoopers dropped us a message tonight to let me know that Matthew McConaughey may be one of Marvel’s leading candidates to slip into Cap’s red white and blue underpants. Our source is a reliable one, but at this point it’s still very early and he’s only one of the actor’s they are considering for the role.

Shitless Matt as Cap? The man certainly has the body to fill out any sort of non-rubber spandex that they put on him, but will that even be necessary? The Captain America suit looks like it was designed by a modern day Fox News, and in order to get Cap to play well for international audiences, perhaps we should remind them how despite our weak currency, we still have the resources to stomp all over their countries should the whim of our President require.

Luckily, we’ll have a new president by then, but given how that current race is, there might not be a whole bunch of difference.

Can Matty and Marvel pair up to make Captain America as likable as uber-capitalist Tony Stark?

Who knows. This rumor is like a new born baby with a soft spot on its head. Sure, the kid might be a genius, we just need to be gentle with it until its skull fully forms.
