There’s something about Will Smith movies. Something that no one can explain. In the below preview, when Jason Bateman tell Will Smith’s superhero character: “People don’t like you Hancock,” he is not talking about Will Smith, but a fictional character. People love Will Smith.

I Am Legend did pretty well despite not being the most watchable of Will Smith movies. Hitch did okay, for god sakes and that wasn’t even a good Will Smith movie (Dave would like to apologize to his mother for trash-talking Hitch).

Although the movie is called Hancock, and it seems like all Jason Bateman’s lawyer character does is call Hancock by his name so we don’t forget what the title of the movie is or what endless iteration of Will Smith character we are supposed to be falling in love with.

The thing about this trailer is that it didn’t have to be as good as it is. We’re not saying that Hancock is the be-all-end-all in trailer land, but it won us over by using a lot of hand-held close-ups, broad daylight action pieces and what can only be Hancock sticking an inmates head up his own ass.

All this trailer needed to do was include two scenes: Will Smith picking up the kid and flying into the atmosphere, and Will Smith being polite to the cop, asking if he can touch her in a non-sexual way.

That’s all you need to sell Will Smith movies: Will Smith.

This one went slightly beyond, which means it’s probably going to make an ass-load of money (more money than one can fit in their ass).
