We will have a Dregs roundup for you later in the day (perhaps much later, if news keeps crawling), but we thought you might appreciate some stuff from this week that you might have missed.
This week saw Dave decide to finally use that “Read More…” link that apparently he should have been using regularly all along, so some of the longer stories got sheared for the average B&U reader who is used to not having to click much.
Advertising, something, something. Wouldn’t it be awesome if this blog wasn’t a business?
Anyway, here’s the stuff from this week worth a second look. Some of it is ours, some if it is stuff we enjoyed reading elsewhere.
Why?: We reported that Norton was going to pull out of The Hulk press days before this story and the general reaction from other insiders was: “He always threatens this.” Well, he did it and we we’re right all along.
The Story: There’s A Pregnancy Leak In The Simpson Camp
Why?: This is pretty much the story of the week in gossip camps, and we’re pretty damn sure that the person leaking this is close to the central Papa Joe Simpson control center, which means father has been pitted against daughter over a baby. That’s not huge in itself, but we are in the middle of a Simpson-family breakdown.
The Story: Marilyn Monroe Blow-Job Tape A Fake
Why?: Genuinely good research by Defamer made us briefly wish that we were Marilyn Monroe biographers. Both because we could have called “bullshit” on the sex tape earlier, and because it seems to give you license to make up stories about Marilyn Monroe.
The Story: Potter Fans: How Quick We Are Forgotten
Why?: Most everyone else covering JK Rowling’s suing of a Harry Potter Lexicon book seems to turn a blind eye to the fact that dozens of these books have been written without two shits being said from Rowling. Why this particular book? Does it have anything to do with the fact that she plans to cash in on a very similar book idea in the distant future?
The Story: Potentially The Greatest Movie Ever
Why?: Once again, we had this story hours before bigger and more imposing blogs like DListed and Best Week Ever picked it up. That doesn’t really matter, we just want to further promote Beverly Hills Chihuahua!
Story: Abortion Artist?
Why?: A Yale art student who artificially inseminated herself then forced multiple miscarriages for her thesis project? Who doesn’t want to hear about that?
The Story: ABC News Gets Slammed Over Debate
Why?: ABC was really stingy about the broadcast rights for this weeks Democratic debate, but then failed to lob anything resembling a meaningful question at either candidate, resulting in over 20,000 negative comments on their website.
The Story: Free The Jefferson 1!
Why?: A DC woman got arrested for dancing as part of a silent flashmob to celebrate Thomas Jefferson’s birthday. The danced at the Jefferson Memorial and one poor unfortunate woman was arrested for simply asking why they had to leave the public space.
Was there something awesome this week that we left out? We know pucky is our #1 commenter, but let us know what you want to see! Or (on the off chance you like us) good things we’ve already done!
Love us!
