We reported earlier on the insider buzz that Katie Couric is going to be forced out of her contract as early as inauguration 2009 because of her horrid performance, ratings wise, on CBS’ Evening News.

Couric’s been a weight on the ratings as they continue to be nowhere near the numbers CBS needs to even compete against the competitors.

Not mentioning their exec’s pay-bump, CBS is in a PR tailspin.

Who better to save them than Anderson Cooper?

The NY Daily News has been keeping its greasy fingers on the pulse of the Couric failings, now suggesting that the CBS insider report is three-fold:

-Let old-ass Larry King retire and fumigate his studio.

-Give Couric Larry King Live!

-Give Anderson Cooper the CBS Evening News.

The Larry King camp has been trying to quash the rumors that they are on their way out, but whle CBS is treating their news properties as chess pieces, you can bet that Larry is going to find his ass on the business end of a boot if Couric’s ratings drop any more.

If Couric needs to be ousted before ’09, CBS would most likely hand the reigns of the news over to Harry Smith or Bob Schieffer (who filled in after Rather self-destructed) for a ratings bump while they found a replacement.

Please, let that replacement be Anderson Cooper. He’s like the gay George Clooney in the sense that he can do no wrong in our eyes.
