We went to go see the US premiere/Gen Art Film Festival closing screening of The Take, a new film where John Leguizamo plays a security officer who has to prove his own innocence after he is forced into participating in a robbery.

The film was made for under $1 million dollars and filmed over 18 days, which is insanely short and tight. We’ve heard directors whine about getting 30-odd days to shoot, but director Brad Furman pulled it off somehow.

Chances are you won’t be seeing this when it opens on Friday, because it’s only in one theater in NY and one theater in LA.

But, that didn’t stop a AP article from rocketing stars John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez to the top 10 of Google Trends yesterday.

There is a pretty gritty sex scene in the film when Leguizamo’s Felix tries to have sex with his wife played by Perez. It goes south and ends with an argument that tears the family apart, but Furman lingers on some of the most awkward realities of trying to pretend a marriage is okay by fornicating.

What starts with a hand job becomes violent sex, becomes violent doggy-style, becomes a shouting match, kids and all.

It was awkward for Perez:

“This is not my first time working with John, we are friends, I’ve known him very long. … It was very easy working with him. We have an easy dialogue and between each other there is no ego, no competition,” the 43-year-old actress told The Associated Press in a recent interview.

“It was in the sex scene between husband and wife that things started to go bad. … It was the hardest scene, very difficult,” she said. “I respect him so much and he respects me so much. I know his wife, he knew my husband and introduced me to my boyfriend. It was very awkward. Like brother and sister having to do a sex scene.”

It took a lot to go there and be honest,” she said. “He has a wonderful marriage, but even in a successful marriage you have times when things are not good and sometimes that plays in the bedroom. And we went for it.”

Even though the experience was “shocking” for her, Perez said that “in the end, it was one of the best intimate scenes I’ve done.”

Lets just say that we make a living out of making the unsexiest celeb nudity sexy, but this scene was pretty intense and very awkward. Especially since we could see Leguizamo and Perez from our seats.
