We don’t have a catch phrase (unless your big SHH readers, in which case it’s probably: “Good has no place here”), but we’re big fans of calling executives idiots, because they usually are and very blatantly wave their dicks around in everyone’s faces.

This news, however, makes us think that there are still some suits who know what awesome is:

Paramount Pictures will make an animated film inspired by the ’70s sci-fi fantasy magazine Heavy Metal, with director David Fincher spearheading the project.

“Heavy Metal” will be stamped by the erotic and violent storylines and images that remain the trademark of a magazine that debuted in the U.S. in 1977. The mag introduced the works of American artists and writers such as Robert Silverberg, Harlan Ellison and H.R. Giger.

The film will consist of eight or nine individual animated segments, each of which will be directed by a different helmer.

Fincher will direct one of the segments; Kevin Eastman, the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” co-creator who is now owner and publisher of Heavy Metal, will direct another. So will Tim Miller, whose Blur Studios will handle the animation for what is being conceived as an R-rated, adult-themed feature.

This is especially good news after we saw how low animation could stoop yesterday with Britney’s absolutely awful video.

Heavy Metal, on the other hand, is pure sci-fi fantasy misogyny which are either our favorite three or four words (if sci-fi is two, you see).

Not to mention Fincher taking some time off from his dead serious line of films to have some fun before taking on comic book adaptation Black Hole to see release in 2010.

Until then, let’s hope someone thinks enough to approach Neil Gaiman about this project.
