The Story: Conan the praying dog folds his paws in prayer alongside a Buddhist priest at Shuri-kannondo temple in Naha city, Okinawa province, Japan.

The eighteen month old long haired Chihuahua stands up in prayer when the temple priest performs his sutras.

Conan also prays before going out for walks, or before feeding time.

Title of the film: DOGma

Tagline: Sit. Stay. Repent.

Starring: Widget, the long-haired, web 2.0-saavy offspring of Gidget, the Taco Bell dog. Also, Keanu Reeves.

The Plot: Keanu Reeves is Todd, an American ex-pat turned Japanese stock broker. Todd moved to Japan after his wife and child died in a horrible Church fire, set by the local pedophile priest.

Spurning the Christian God when intoxicated, Todd passes out in front a Buddist temple where he is awoken by Dharma, the worlds only praying dog.

Events turn from bad to worse as Todd’s life spins out of control. The only peace he can find is in the local temple, pouring his heart out to Dharma.

Imagine Todd’s surprise when, one day, Dharma asks for Todd’s help.

The Twist: The sudden shift in Act Two when the movie stops being a somber character piece and turns into a slap-stick comedy about Todd rescuing the Chihuahua’s Buddhist master from a Chinese prison.

Why it will work: Put a praying dog on the poster, make Keanu say “whoa,” and cut the preview so it looks like Todd re-discovers Christ through a praying dog and the same people who elected Bush twice will have already paid their hard earned money before discovering the story is sort-of about Tibetan genocide.
